During past two months, every time I spoke to my son Lukas, he asked me the same question – when you are going to sail first time. My answer was always the same – "I do not know. I have too many things to do before that." .The list of outstanding tasks was unbelievably long. It was boring for me and for all of us waiting for the exactly right time. I decided that it is about time to cut the "umbilical cord" and try to sail. I made the very short list what must be done to get the SeaGoat ready to sail. I faced a lot of dilemmas and problems but as I said – it was about time. After two months of extensive work, the SeaGoat was ready for the first sea trial. I like to inform you that on 23 of July 2006 at 2:00 PM the SeaGoat sailed first time on her own with a crew on board - me us a Capitan, Barbara us a crew and headmaster and our dearest friends Gabrielle and Laurier from "Cap-au-Lest" us our instructors and supporters. It was short – two hours – trial on the lake with heavy thunderstorm on the horizon. It is very hard to describe what we felt during this test sail. I was waiting for this moment since I got the plans from Bruce Roberts. It was the first time sailing for Barbara. I know that she was excited but at the same time she was very scared. She never sailed before. After almost five years spent on this project, two broken ribs; after falling down from the deck level to the bilge area; after broken right arm tender when I moved the full size Ύ” marine plywood – future bulkheads; after heroic job with melting lead and moving all 8000 lbs from the garage to my car, from my car close to the hull, lifting piece by piece by temporary davit; after hundreds of hours spent with computer, calculator; after hundreds of e-mails asking for advices and opinions; after a lot of money spent on this project; after no weekends with family after, after, after………. - the big day finely came - the SeaGoat sailed first time. Please take a look what happened during past two months.
